Gettin' Ready...

So I'm involved in my first show...see prior post...and I'm SUPER excited. I have about a trillion things to make and I really need to get a move on. I've got all these ideas buzzing around in my head and really need to get them to come to life. Thankfully, the weekend is approaching and I will have a bit of time on my hands to do so. I'm thinking when I get home tonight I will spend a few hours on doing just that. I've also got to get cracking on other aspects of this event, like how I will display things and fun little things like that. Again, super excited. I've been spreading the word via email and fliers and can't wait to see how it turns out! I'll be sure to post lots of pics and whatnot...but you know what I've really got to do? Is get some readers here...hmm...
I'll have to work on that!!

CT Etsy Street Team- My first show!!

CONNECTICUT ARTISANS UNITE THROUGH ETSY.COM TO PROMOTE A HANDMADE LIFE

In this Walmart made world, it seems that people are starting to look for change. A collective of artists and crafters from around the state have come together under the umbrella of Etsy.com and BuyHandmade.org to try and redirect consumers to an emerging movement: craftivism.

WHAT IS ETSY?
If you haven't heard of Etsy before, the CT Etsy Street Team would like to change that. Etsy is an online market place where art and craft in all mediums can be bought and sold. Each artist sets up their own virtual shop and uses Etsy resources, as well as their own to build a customer base. Etsy's mission is to help rebuild the economy while also helping artists to make a living and reconnect makers with buyers.

WHAT IS THE CONNECTICUT ETSY TEAM?

The team was an idea of Etsy, to start grouping people by location or craft to work together to promote each other as well as the site. How each team goes about that is a completely up to them.

The CT Etsy Street Team is a group of small business owners from around the state, who are predominantly women. As a team, they hope to interest the public with their individual wares, as well as steer people away from products that are mass-produced while also trying to make Etsy a household name.

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

The CT Etsy Street Team will be hosting events all over CT throughout 2008, both for commerce and community. Community based events include Meet and Greet's through out the state. Team members get together in public places to chat and share their work. Community is encouraged to chime in! On the commerce side, a craft show called Craftastic will be taking place on April 13th at The Space in Hamden CT.

Anyone interested in more information can view the team's blog at CTEtsyteam.blogspot.com for a complete list and links to each member's store, as well as links to the Team Store and Team MySpace page. Also visit www.freewebs.com/craftastic for more information about Craftastic!

Big Money! Big Money!

Last night I added this Pup-Holder to my Etsy site. (www. miaroxdesigns.etsy.com) What's a Pup-Holder you ask? It's simply a sleeping bag for your puppy. However, these bags are not only great for your pooch to lounge around in in bed or anywhere at home, but they are also easy for you to carry your baby in. Now, I don't mean ''carry'' as in - toss pup in the bag, and swing over shoulder. I mean, put puppy in bag, snuggle up and carry outside craddled in your arms like the most doted upon pup on the planet. I love this print. The dollar bills scream Life of luxury and the interior is lined with black cotton. Rhinestone money signs also adorn the top trim. With a black tassel on the other side. This pup-holder is sure to get the attention of all the other pets and pet-owners. Making everyone stop and stare, at your little MoneyBags.

Sew Much to do

So little time. I have a new idea working around in my head that I cannot wait to build tonight. More and more ideas keep coming to me and it's just a matter of the time and materials to bring them to life. Hopefully, being that I have this evening and all day tomorrow (Sunday) to do these things, I will get alot done. I am also trying to figure out some clever ways to advertise and promote my etsy site. Any info that anybody has would be a TREMENDOUS help. I'm still learning...but I'm SO happy to be doing it!

Welcome!

Welcome! Since I have started this ....project/business of mine...I've been reading up on ways to promote/advertise yourself and your merchandise. As those of you who know me, already know, I am a member of Etsy.com and I am LOVING that site. LOVING it. However, you have to promote yourself in other areas as well. Which brings me here. And numerous other places. The part that I am starting to like the best though, is getting to meet and be exposed to all of these other wildly talented people all across the globe. It is truly amazing and inspiring to see how many hands are out there creating things and how many minds are imagining things. It almost makes me feel...hope. For communities, for the world, for humanity...maybe that sounds silly. But I guess it's so easy to get swept up into everyday life of work and tending to your home and family and so on... and shopping at major retail chains, stores and malls, that it's so refreshing to see how many items you can buy handmade. And how many people can use their bare hands to create beautiful works of art. You start to realize that there are people out there with passion and with talent and people that are...AWARE. It's nice. You should check it out, if you haven't already. (click on the picture below) I am just starting up and I have A WHOLE LOT to get going on. I have craft shows coming up and flyers and it's all very exciting. I am spending this upcoming snowy New England weekend building pet beds. I'm super excited and will post pics Sunday night. For now though I have to go. Take care!
